Perpetuation
Through appropriating iconic stills from The Shining and Get Out, I hope to expose what both films know well: that histories of trauma and oppression always leave traces. Trauma drips from the floorboards-- from the cracks in the systems we subscribe to, until it is unable to be ignored. The dynamics of oppression are learned and perpetuated within us all, whether we are the oppressor or the oppressed (and everyone is both, at some point or another). How can I come to terms with my privilege and reclaim agency over my humanity within a system that is deeply wrong?
